Kenyan Government has relaxed rules on travel amid COVID 19 cases.
Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenyan President, said on a televised address to the nation that the experts advised the country is not ready for reopening. Still, he has decided to lift off measures partially.
Domestic Air travel is scheduled to resume in Kenya by the 15th of July. International Flights would be commencing their operations on the 1st of August. On the same day, internal travel restrictions also would be relaxed. The announcement took a move as the COVID 19 crisis has hit very hard on Kenya’s vital industry – tourism. Also, the current economic situation has forced Kenya to make the announcement even though the COVID 19 graph has not witnessed a drop.
He also announced that for the next 30 days, curfew would remain in place from 9 pm till 4 am with immediate effect.
In places of worship, a maximum of 100 people are only permitted. Each worship ceremony must be restricted to a one-hour session. The President also advised people to follow social distancing and avoid travel as much as possible.
Kenya hopes that once tourism and air travel kickstarts, the flag carrier Kenya Airways would witness an upside of passenger revenues. Kenyan cabinet minister for transport and tourism has been inspecting airports to evaluate its readiness to accept travels again.
